There are two main parts to getting your license: completing your pre-licensing education and passing your licensing exam. The time it takes to get your Alaska real estate license can vary depending on how quickly you move through each. Most people take a few weeks to complete the education portion, but students who dedicate more time can finish sooner. You’ll also want to give yourself adequate time to study for the exam, which will vary from person to person.
The Alaska real estate exam is administered by Pearson VUE. You can schedule your exam online through their website, and there are testing centers located in Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Juneau. Be sure to schedule the exam ahead of time, as desirable test dates may fill up quickly.
The cost of getting an Alaska real estate license will vary depending on the school where you complete your pre-licensing education. Compared to most college courses, licensing courses are budget-friendly, typically running a few hundred dollars. There are also a few fixed costs you’ll want to factor in, including a $100 fee to take the exam and licensing fees set by the Alaska Real Estate Commission.
No, you do not need to have a diploma or GED to get your Alaska real estate license. However, you must be at least 19 years old and meet a few other eligibility requirements, including completing the required education and passing the licensing exam.
Post-licensing in Alaska requires all new real estate licensees to complete 30 hours of additional education. This must be completed within one year of obtaining the initial salesperson license. This course is a way to finalize your real estate licensing requirements and be fully recognized as an agent in Alaska.
After your Post Licensing education is completed, you will need to submit the Post Licensing Affadavit (08-4326) and your course certificates to the Real Estate Commission of Alaska. Note that any agents coming from out of state who have at least one year of experience as a real estate agent are exempt from this requirement.
Alaska real estate licensees are required to complete 20 hours of continuing education every two years to maintain their license. This includes mandatory core courses and elective credits to meet the renewal requirements.
The average salary for an Alaska real estate salesperson can vary depending on factors such as experience, location, and sales volume. According to Indeed.com, the average salary for an Alaska real estate salesperson is around $93,520 per year.*

Yes, but there are a few exceptions and considerations:
The Alaska Real Estate Commission reviews applications on a case-by-case basis and requires applicants to provide detailed information about any convictions.
Any individuals convicted of a felony (e.g., forgery, theft, extortion, conspiracy to defraud creditors, fraud, etc.) or any other crimes judged by the Commission to affect their ability to competently and safely practice as a real estate salesperson will not be granted a license.
For the above-mentioned individuals, a real estate license application will only be considered if at least seven years have passed since the individual completed their sentence.
